2. How do you describe your artistic style/perspective? How do you define success as an artist? What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What are some of the most important skills you draw upon to create your work? What are some of the most significant things you've learned through art-making?
A: My art style is mostly Contemporary and Modern. Most of my works are still lifes in a wide range of mediums. I define success in the art world is using your creativity to create a piece that you are proud of. You do not have to be famous to be successful you just have to love doing it. When I create my pieces I draw upon my mood and objects around me to give me inspiration. I want my work to cause a specific emotion through the objects and colors I use. Throughout my short time making art I have learned that if art does not come from a place of emotion it will not affect the viewer and will have less significance. Art is a way to express your feelings and portray your values in a way and can have a major impact on everyone that views it.

5. Choose 2 mini lessons that you felt were the most beneficial in your learning for that particular project. Include photos of these and explain thoroughly. Do you feel you needed more instruction for success? Explain or did you feel that the instruction given was enough to ensure success? Explain.
A: The two most beneficial practices was the candy drawing and the one hundred pen textures. The pen project was to draw one hundred unique pen textures in two by two-inch boxes. I learned a lot about how hard to press and how to create shadows. If the textures activity had more examples and instruction I would not have run out ideas for patterns. By the fiftieth pattern, I was struggling to draw original textures. The first couple of textures I used previous patterns we were taught, but for the rest, I had no idea what to draw; I had no resources at my disposal. The second project was the candy drawing which was a still life of candy using prismacolors. Everybody’s drawings were different and full of color. It taught me how to shade, add tints, and draw realistically using colored pencils. I do not think I needed any more instruction because we had practiced previously, we could take our time, and we could ask questions if we needed to.

7. What medium was your favorite to work with? Explain why and how you were able to master the techniques associated with this medium.
A: My favorite medium was Prismacolor pencils. Colored pencils were my favorite because you could layer the colors and create interest by adding multiple colors under one color. I was able to master prismacolors by observing how to make light streaks of color. Practicing with watercolor, pastel, and colored pencils helped me learn the different techniques for each. Experimenting with the bright colors and metallics was my favorite part. I learned that black paper made the colors pop and stand out. Another positive is how well it blends and the ability to create realistic shadows and gradients. Prismacolors were my favorite because of the smooth, vibrant colors that allowed me to create realistic drawings.

3. Discuss one project where you felt you were the least successful. Explain why you felt this way. What would you do differently to change this piece? Explain .
A: My least successful project was the still life project. This is because it was my first project and I was rushing to finish it. I did not take the time to get the proportions and shadows correct. I took the most time on the telephone so that looks the best. If I could redo it I would do it after school and use lighter shades for the background. I would also try to do less streaky marks on the mason jar. If I could add more shadows and highlights it would look less flat and more realistic. Even though the still life project was my least successful I still think it turned out alright considering it was my first piece in this class.
